Three Rivers Village School has been a democratic school in Pittsburgh since 2013.
A community of many children and teens and a few adult staff members has been experimenting and evolving in a variety of ways over that time, always respecting the independence and responsibility of students to freely choose their own activities each day and meaningfully participate in the government and operations of the school. Every day has been full of learning, growth, and connection – as well as generally a lot of fun!
As of the end of the 2024-25 school year, though, the difficult decision to close the school has been made. If you would like to learn more about democratic education, our resources page is still available, with a number of articles and some information about similar schools.
